Crop a photo, image or picture to passport size and see whether the file meets the rule before you upload it. Out comes a 413×531 JPEG with 300 ppi written into it for the India 35×45 mm size, or the size of whichever country you choose.
The requirement list holds twelve passport and visa sizes. Each one carries its source and the date it was checked, and a row that comes from a secondary source or from this site's earlier table says so beside it. After you frame the face, the verdict under the contract checks the file itself: its decoded pixel size, the real resolution behind it, whether the density reached the file, whether the top corners are plain and light, and its size in KB.
Filling in an exam form instead? The form photo cropper has the SSC and PAN sizes with their KB ranges. A whole family's photos at once go through bulk crop, and every size is listed in the spec table.
What you can do here
The size is data, with a date
Each country is a row with a source and a checked-on date. Nothing on the page is a number that is not in a row.
Measured, not promised
The verdict reads the output file's real dimensions, bytes, density and corners. It says 'meets the published spec', never 'accepted'.
Density written, not implied
300 ppi goes into the JPG or PNG header without re-encoding a pixel, so the file states its physical size.
Never enlarged in silence
If the area you cropped has fewer pixels than the size needs, the contract says by how much it is being enlarged.
How to crop photo to passport size
- 1Open the photo
Drop a straight-on photo taken against a plain light wall. It is decoded in this tab and goes nowhere else.
- 2Choose the country and frame the face
India 35×45 mm is selected; pick another row under Requirement. Drag the box so the crown sits near the top of the dashed oval, the chin near the bottom and the eyes on the line.
- 3Read the verdict, then download
The contract states the pixel size, the density and the KB; the verdict checks each clause on the file. Download saves exactly that file.

Questions about cropping
Which passport photo size is right for India?
The standard Indian passport-size photo is 35×45 mm. At 300 pixels per inch that is 413×531 pixels, which is what this page writes by default. It is also the size most Indian exam and ID forms mean by "passport size". The Passport Seva online upload is a separate rule whose published numbers disagree, so it is not listed here until it has been read on passportindia.gov.in itself.
What does 300 ppi written into the file mean?
Pixels alone have no physical size. A JPG or PNG can also carry a density field that says how many pixels make an inch. CropPhoto writes 300 into that field without re-encoding the picture, so a lab or portal reading the file sees 35×45 mm rather than guessing. WebP has no such field here, and the contract above the Download button says so in words.
Does it make the background white?
No. CropPhoto crops; it does not change pixels. It measures the two top corners of the output and the verdict says whether they are plain and light, plain but dark, or busy. If the background is wrong, the fix is a new photo against a plain light wall.
Is the head height measured?
Not yet. The dashed oval and the eye line are guides drawn on the crop box: line the crown up near the top of the oval, the chin near the bottom and the eyes on the line. The verdict checks pixel size, real resolution, density, the background corners and the file size, and it never claims a head-height pass it did not measure.
Where do the sizes come from, and when were they checked?
Every size is a row in the upload-spec table with its source and the date it was last checked. The US rows were read on travel.state.gov on 18 October 2026. The India row comes from a secondary source and is labelled that way, so its clauses show as checks rather than passes. The other countries come from this site's earlier table and are labelled as not yet re-checked.
What does the US digital photo need?
A square from 600×600 to 1200×1200 pixels, with the head between 50% and 69% of the image height and the eyes between 56% and 69% up from the bottom, as published on the State Department's composition template. Choose "US passport or visa, digital" in the requirement list; the output is 600×600 unless you set a larger square under Export.
