Crop Image by Pixels

The crop is drawn on a canvas in this tab.

Ready

Drop several at once, or a whole folder, and they stack up in name order — each one is cropped in turn, and the sheet count below the frame tells you where you are.

*opens wherever your browser can decode it, and saves as JPG, PNG or WebP. An iPhone HEIC photo opens in Safari; other browsers say so and explain how to get a JPG. An animated GIF or WebP gives its first frame. Up to 80 megapixels and 150 MB per photo.

Position & size is open. Type X, Y, W and H, switch units if you need cm or mm, then Download: the file is exactly the box.

Crop an image, photo or picture to exact pixel dimensions by typing where the box goes. Out comes a file that is the box: the width and height you typed, with no resampling, so 1.0× is what the contract says.

The fields work in pixels, in percent of the picture, or in millimetres, centimetres and inches at a density you choose. They move with the box when you drag it, and the box moves when you type.

Need a different output size than the box? Crop and resize sets it and says how much it scales. A ratio first: crop to aspect ratio. To keep the original data, crop JPG copies JPEG blocks and crop PNG keeps every pixel exact.

What you can do here

  • Typed geometry

X, Y, width and height fields move the box and follow it as you drag, so the numbers are always the box.

  • Five units

Pixels, percent of the picture, and millimetres, centimetres or inches at a density you set (300 ppi unless a requirement sets one).

  • No resampling

The output is the crop's own pixels. The contract above Download says 1.0× and the file's size in KB.

  • Lossless for JPEGs

A JPEG can be cropped without re-encoding at all: turn on Lossless under Export and the edges snap to the 8 or 16 px block grid.

How to crop image by pixels

  1. 1
    Open the image

Drop a photo on the box or choose one. It is decoded in this tab.

  2. 2
    Type the rectangle

Under Position & size enter X and Y for the top-left corner and W and H for the size. Arrow keys move the box 1 px, Shift+arrows 10 px.

  3. 3
    Download the exact pixels

The contract shows crop and output as the same size, 1.0×. Download saves that file.

Questions about cropping

Is the file exactly the size I type?

Yes. With no output size set, the file is the crop's own pixels, so a 640 by 480 box saves a 640×480 file. The contract above Download says 1.0× when nothing is scaled; if you set a different output size under Export, it says by how much.

Can I crop in centimetres or millimetres?

Yes. Switch the units to mm, cm or in and the fields convert at the density shown, 300 ppi by default, or the density a selected requirement states. The file is still cut at whole pixels, and the line under the fields gives the pixel values.

What does the percent unit measure?

X and W are a share of the picture's width and Y and H a share of its height, so 50% wide is half the photo whatever its resolution.

Why did my numbers change when I typed them?

A locked ratio keeps the other side in step, and the box cannot leave the picture, so a width that would run past the edge is reduced to fit. Choose Free under the ratio chips to type both sides independently.

Can I crop a JPG without losing quality?

Yes. Turn on Lossless under Export and the compressed blocks inside the box are copied without re-encoding. The left and top edges snap to the JPEG's 8 or 16 px block grid; the right and bottom edges stay where you put them. The crop JPG page has the details.

Is there a keyboard way to place the box?

Focus the box and use the arrow keys to move it 1 pixel, Shift with an arrow for 10, and Alt with an arrow to resize from the bottom-right corner. Ctrl+Z undoes, and a run of nudges counts as one step.
